A new bike party Tweed bicycle Run

The Tweed Run is a fabulously quirky event where participants don their finest tweeds and brogues and cycle through London, stopping along the way to take tea, have a picnic, and ending with an old fashioned knees-up in the afternoon.

The first Tweed Run happened in 2009, when 300 tweed-clad cyclists gathered at the top of London’s Savile Row on a chilly February morning. Since then, we have watched our baby grow from that small guerrilla event to an event that has captured the imagination of the fashion world and cycling enthusiasts around the globe. Today, we host Tweed Runs around the globe, but our flagship event will always be the London Tweed Run.

At our events, we welcome an unparalleled mix of smiling, tweed clad ladies and gentlemen for what many call “the most fun I’ve ever had on a bike!” Famed New York Times style photographer Bill Cunningham once dubbed us a “reinvention of the catwalk.” Esquire enthuses that the Tweed Run was on the “scratchy tip” of fashion. GQ credited us with bringing Tweed back into popularity, and BikeBiz suggested that we helped to save the Harris Tweed industry, which previous to 2009 was floundering. In 2013, for our fifth birthday, our ride was documented in the Museum of London’s film footage of the era as a culturally significant movement.

The Tweed run was created in the name of nostalgia for bygone time and has become very popular meaning only 500 cyclists get the chance to take part every year by purchasing a lottery ticket for a must sought after place. The success of Tweed run, now in its fifth year has seen the event take place in other countries including; Florida, Toronto, Germany and Tokyo.
Each year the route is different and the 2013 Tweed Run took cyclists past some of London’s most well-known areas including; Regent Street, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square and the houses of Parliament. The event offers many extras, aside from the opportunity to take a trip into the past riders are able to buy a Tweed Run picnic basket, and don their best vintage gear. There are many awards given out throughout the day for the likes of best dressed man and woman, best moustache and the best bicycle. Entries for 2014 event will be opening via the website; people are urged to apply early to avoid disappointment if they wish to take part in the sixth annual Tweed Run.
